The greenside darter is one of our most colorful freshwater fishes. This species is a small member of the perch family that reaches a size of 11 cm. It is distinguished from other darters occurring in Ontario by the presence of 5-8 large, green ‘W’s or ‘V’s on its side. The greenside darter inhabits rocky riffles of creeks or rivers and spends most of its time on the bottom. It is widespread in the Sydenham River watershed and appears to be maintaining its range and abundance levels under current conditions.
