Over $5,000 raised to support Conservation Education Programs

May 1, 2022 | SCRCA Education Team

After four years of cancellations due to substantial rainfall and then the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers were pleased to finally be able to go ahead with the 2022 Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race.

Over 70 paddlers participated in the race that was held on May 1, 2022. The race featured 11 different race classes, which have distances that span 7 km, 12 km or 16 km, and range from competitive to easy-going, “lazy river” classes.

It takes place on the East Sydenham River with the finish line at the Shetland Conservation Area in Dawn-Euphemia, Ontario.

The annual race is hosted by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority and its Foundation and is sanctioned by the Ontario Marathon Canoe and Kayak Racing Association.

The race serves as a fundraiser for the SCRCA’s Conservation Education Program. In 2022, a total of $5,053 was raised through race registration fees, donations, and tee-shirt sales. The Top Fundraiser Award was presented to Emery Huszka and Jerry Fiddler for their fundraising efforts.
