Green Infrastructure in Rural Drainage Demo Day 2024
A Demonstration of Green Infrastructure in Rural Drainage Projects undertaken in Strathroy, Warwick, and Chatham-Kent from 2022-2024

The Green Infrastructure in Drainage Demo Day was held in Strathroy on March 8, 2024. The event was attended by a mixture of drainage superintendents; drainage engineers; drainage suppliers; rural landowners; Conservation Authority stewardship, engineering, and regulations staff; as well as Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks staff for a total of 20 in-person and 19 virtual attendees.
This hybrid event, hosted by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA), showcased five Green Infrastructure in Rural Drainage projects that SCRCA and municipal drainage staff have been collaborating on in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, Township of Warwick, and Municipality of Chatham-Kent over the course of 2022-2024. The event provided of an overview of the projects that received funding and projects that may be eligible for funding in the future. These projects included Water and Sediment Control Basins (WASCoBs), riffle pool structures/Newbury weirs, and more.
The speakers at the event were Steve Morriss, Drainage Superintendent for the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc; Mike Gerrits, Drainage Engineer from M. Gerrits Consulting Inc.; as well as Sarah Snetsinger, Watershed Biologist with the SCRCA.
This webinar and the projects discussed were coordinated by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority through financial support from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
